I would think yes. To be able to be in semi contact with your family changes many dynamics as a soldier abroad. To be able to communicate and stay current with your loved one overseas must be comforting. For good or bad, I think to be able to check in with your loves ones back home is worth the technology available today.

It certainly has been a great gift to be able to hear back from the soldiers we are sending packages to. Not only do we know they have arrived safely, but our recipients can let us know if there is anything special they would like to get from us - we know they are all okay and in good spirits.

Technology absolutely has made a difference for deployed families. Access to information is now immediate. Now whether that is good or bad depends on how it is used. It can be difficult for a deployed soldier to hear about problems they are unable to solve, but sometimes just being able to see a smiling face from home can be just what's needed.
